Ask just about any child in Australia and they'll tell you the Wiggles keyboard player Jeff Fatt spends a lot of time asleep on the job. Now courtesy of the multi award winning songwriting talents of The Wiggles and their keyboard player's snoozy disposition comes WAKE UP JEFF! It's the very latest album from The Wiggles and it's out now on
ABC Music. The Wiggles are arguably the most successful and prominent children's entertainers today. It has been estimated that one in every two toddlers in Australia sing along to a Wiggles video or album or have been to a Wiggles Concert. One of the many belly laughs for children at a Wiggles performance is to join the band in bellowing "Wake Up Jeff" to send the sultan of sleep into seizures of silliness. About half a million people saw Jeff nod off as part of the Wiggles stage show in cities and towns across the country last year. The Fab Four for the under fives built their reputation on years of solid playing all around Australia from big cities to small towns where all that stands is a pub, petrol station and a local hall. People of all ages know that if they see a Wiggles show they're in for a show full of fun and entertainment - and the backbone of these shows is the music. Catchy songs like Hot Potato - so catchy that once you've heard them you find them almost impossible to forget! Wake Up Jeff! is the sixth album for The Wiggles and was recorded near the end of a busy year for the group which culminated in the recording of this album. As The Wiggles' success has grown, the production quality of each new release has increased. Apart from the multi-skilled musical talents of The Wiggles (Anthony Field whose previous incarnation was as a member of the Gold and Platinum award winning band, The Cockroaches, with fellow Wiggle Jeff Fatt, can play anything from guitar to bagpipes and didgeridoo. Jeff himself is an accomplished jazz pianist while Murray Cook and Greg Page both excel at the guitar), they have called on the talents of friends from all sorts of musical disciplines that suit the wide variety of styles appearing on Wake Up Jeff! The trumpets you hear on "Bucket of Dew/Paddy Condon From Cobar" are provided by our good friend Dominic Lindsay who, has played before with The Cockroaches. The viola, cello and violins you hear on the tracks are also provided by Margaret and Angela Lindsay, and Maria Schattovits, Who have played with The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Australian Chamber Orchestra and David Helfgott. The twenty-seven tracks featured on Wake Up Jeff! depart slightly from the previous Wiggles recordings with their use of a broader range of instruments and styles - yet the songs are still as infectious as ever! The songs on "Wake Up Jeff!" are about the everyday experiences of children such as "Having Fun at the Beach" and "Take a Trip Out on The Sea" "Wake Up Jeff!" features lots of fun and activity such as the "Name Game", and learning counting with the pre-school classic "Five Little Ducks". There are movement songs such as "Romp Bomp a Stomp" and songs from other cultures such as "Havenu Shalom Alechem" as well as pure fun songs like "Bing Bang Bong (That's a Pirate Song)". So it's all aboard for the seemingly unstoppable Wiggles and their latest musical foray - Wake Up Jeff! |
